Being a writer is expensive. We make next to nothing and even those of us with a publisher often have to pay for our own marketing and publicity.

More and more, writers have to cover the expenses associated with promoting their work, which locks out a lot of writers like me without the financial means. Readings, books to send to reviewers, buying our own books to sell at readings. It all adds up.
